What We Do

Tickets, Trains and Trolleys

We monitor our train service performance and discuss any issues with the Train Operating Company, Northern Rail.  We campaign to get more and better services between Leeds and Carlisle.  And you can buy tickets and a Dales Railcard for discounted fares.

Last but not least, we run a very popular refreshment trolley on some of our trains.

Trust us with preservation

We restored and revived three of the stations along the line, Ribblehead, Horton-in-Ribblesdale and Kirkby Stephen.  They are now flourishing, either as visitor centre, cafe/bar or holiday accommodation.  Ribblehead Stationmaster's house was restored to its original state and is now available as a holiday let.

The Journey is the Reward

Starting from Leeds, you will travel up the Aire Valley to Skipton.  There's already plenty to see out of the window, towns and countryside.  From then on you're in the Yorkshire Dales, travelling up the Ribble Valley to the world-famous Ribblehead Viaduct.  Go further, and  it's over the summit and down the fertile Eden Valley all the way to Carlisle.

Shopping along the Line

Browse in our station shops at Settle or Appleby, or at the Ribblehead Visitor Centre.  And if you can't get there, there are not one but two specialist online shops, offering a variety of gifts and branded Settle-Carlisle memorabilia.

Visit or Stay with us

Come for a day out, take part in a guided walk, or stop off along the line.  If you want to stay longer, spend a few days at England's highest mainline station, at Ribblehead overlooking the famous viaduct, or right by the platform at historic Kirkby Stephen.
